Cascina La Barbatella is in Nizza Monferrato, a territory in the upper Monferrato, south of the province of Asti, in the Belbo Valley – an area crossed by the Belbo Stream and its tributary Nizza, very rich in vineyards and one important wine-producing territory.
The first vineyards in the area of Strada Annunziata, in fact, date back to the late XIX century.
This facility was established some thirty years ago in one of the most spectacular spots of Nizza Monferrato – struck by its beauty, the owners have recently decided to open it to visitors.
Ever since the first day of activity, Angelo Sonvico, from Lombardy, has been one of the protagonists of the regional wine scene and together with his internationally renowned oenologist, Giuliano Noè, has brought the company to international appreciation, always working with true dedication, passion and skilled competence.
The vineyard extends for about 2.5 acres, on a ridge of sandy and calcareous clay soil, facing south-east; the 50-year-old vines have a density of 4500 plants per hectare and are trained with the guyot technique.
La Barbatella produces Barbera, and Vigna dell’Angelo Barbera d’Asti Superiore – among the best wines on the market.
