The Civic Museum of Natural History was established in 1976, and then moved from Piazza S. Agostino to its current location in 1990; it is thus located in Cascina Vigna park, part of the System of Protected Areas of the Po River Park.
In 2001, the museum became the first Visitor Center of the Po Torinese River Park. Today, it also serves as a research centre, especially for entomological, ichthyological and ornithological studies.
The main collections include Pliocene fossils, insects and reptiles, as well as minerals which are continuously donated by private collectors or wildlife recovery centres; most of them come from field research though.
The exhibition is actually organized into five rooms. The first one is dedicated to research and teaching, the second to invertebrates, the third to vertebrates and bird biology, the fourth houses some dioramas with local flora, fauna and animal behaviour, while the last is dedicated to the Po River, its hydrology and its morphology.
