Sfilzi State Reserve

This reserve is a wooded area of about 138 acres, 1.177 ft above sea level; it can be found in the northern area of the Umbra Forest, inside the Gargano National Park. The water source of the Sfilzi fountain is right inside this reserve, as the only perennial spring in the mountainous and hilly area of the Gargano Promontory.
FLORA E FAUNA
The arboreal vegetation is made of beeches (Fagus sylvatica) and Turkey oaks (Quercus cerris), Italian maples (Acer opalus), the field maples (Acer campestre), European hornbeams (Carpinus betulus), hop-hornbeams (Ostrya carpinifolia), sessile oaks (Quercus petraea), holm oaks (Quercus ilex), lime trees (Tilia spp.), field elms (Ulmus minor), whitebeams (Sorbus spp.), crab apple trees (Malus sylvestris), laurels (Laurus nobilis), strawberry trees (Arbutus unedo), and turpentine trees (Pistacia terebinthus).
There are also many shrubs and herbaceous species in the undergrowth, as well as in the small side valleys and stretches of Mediterranean scrub.
Local fauna includes roe deers, wild boars, badgers, foxes, wild cats, stone martens, dormice, rock pigeons, long-eared owls, tawny owls, blackbirds, and several species of migratory birds.
