Petraviva Madonie Cooperative is located in the heart of the Madonie territory, in the province of Palermo. Founded by four young professionals, Vincenzo David, Damiano Cerami, Gaetano La Placa and Vittorio Li Puma, it’s always been aimed at safeguarding the biodiversity and true taste of forgotten ancient fruits, while the four experienced entrepreneurs research, collect, reproduce and preserve the ancient fruit tree varieties of Sicily (apples, pears, cherries, almonds, plums, rowans, azaroles, peaches, apricots, jujubes, and many others); they have worked with the Department of Botany of the University of Palermo, and they’re now partnered with C.I.R.I.T.A. (Interdepartmental Center for Research on Technology-Environment Interaction) from the same University.

The nursery also features two collections of mother plants, one of which is in the countryside of Villa Sgadari, in Petralia Soprana.

Petraviva Madonie also offers young student internship opportunities, offering hands-on training and experimental projects, as well as customized partnerships with professional and traditional schools, thus stimulating thorough knowledge and respect for the natural environment.

In 2018, Petraviva “Guide service” was officially launched: a series of half-day or full-day walking tours in the Madonie Park, for beginners and experts as well; visitors can thus be guided on educational paths to the sea or to the top of Mount S. Salvatore, learning about botany and the true wealth of pristine nature all around them. The professional guides were born and raised in the Madonie and are certified by A.I.G.A.E. (the Italian Association of Environmental Hiking Guides); they also have the BLSD first aid certification and are fluent in English and French.
