The 240.000-square mile Adamello Brenta Natural Park encompasses the mountain ranges of Adamello and Brenta. Inside the park, there are 48 lakes and the Adamello Glacier, one of the largest in Europe.

Thanks to the presence of a favourable natural environment, the park hosts a rich and variegated flora (there are about 1500 different plant species) and fauna.

FLORA AND FAUNA

About one third of the park surface is covered by woods and forests: in the lower part, there are broad-leaved trees such as maples (Acer spp.), Cornelian cherry dogwood (Cornus mas), rowans (Sorbus aucuparia), hazelnuts (Corylus avellan ), hornbeams (Carpinus betulus), downy oaks (Quercus pubescens), and ashes (Fraxinus ornus); the highest mountain altitudes feature beech forests and mixed deciduous and coniferous woods. Higher up, there are mainly Norway spruces (Picea abies), larches (Larix decidua), and Swiss pines (Pinus cembra).

From the peaks, visitors can admire a wonderful landscape, featuring the peculiar geological mix of limestone-sedimentary rocks (Brenta Mountain Range) and crystalline rocks (Adamello-Presanella mountains). In fact, this protected area has several unique and different environments with a great variety of plant associations.

In those beautiful places, brown bears, chamois, deers, ibex, roe deers, foxes, badgers, grouse and martens thrive happily and undisturbed. There are also several majestic eagles.

USEFUL TIPS FOR THE VISITORS

The park should be enjoyed at its very best from spring to autumn, when colours and scents blend together, while the meadows and the woods come to life with spectacular flower blooming.

Mountain enthusiasts and casual trekkers can enjoy this enchanted place while taking tons of wonderful pictures. Several sports activities can be enjoyed throughout the park, including leisure walking and trekking.
