Biondi Santi

The Castle of Montepò estate is in Maremma, south of Grosseto.
Jacopo Biondi Santi, the last member of the family that invented Brunello wine, bought this property from the granddaughter of the English writer Graham Greene to continue the tradition of that famous wine and the work of his ancestors. In 1991, he created Sassoalloro, using the very same Brunello grapes, but a highly innovative vinification technique.
The Castle is an example of a medieval fortress, unconquered over the centuries; a military building perched on the top of an imposing hill, refined during the Renaissance period and currently preserved in perfect conditions, thanks to the care and attention of the previous owners.
The complex extends over a hilly area at altitudes ranging from 1.263 to 1.663 ft above sea level, north of Scansano, and enjoys an ideal microclimate and very good soil for the production of long-lasting and fragrant red wines.
Biondi Santi has now extended his vineyard to 543 acres, planting the historic family vine – Sangiovese – and several international varieties like cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and sirah.
The composition of this land, the variety of microclimates and the proximity of the sea make the estate extremely suitable for the production of very high-quality wines, a true testament to the great potential of Maremma.
