This oasis is in the Municipality of Premosello Chiovenda, along the left bank of the Toce River. The geologic texture of the soil is mostly alluvial and the result of the frequent flooding of the river. This area extends over 54 acres and is thoroughly restricted and managed by the WWF in collaboration with the local Municipality. The oasis is mostly made of a deciduous forest, hosting several animal species.
The local flora thrives on a surface layer of Acer spp., Alnus glutinosa, Fraxinus spp., Quercus spp., Salix spp., and Tilia spp., an intermediate layer of Coryllus avellana, Crataegus monogyna, Lonicera caprifolium, and Sambucus spp., and a lower layer with abundant herbaceous, indigenous and exotic plant species.
The local fauna features of about 40 nesting species of birds, including herons, the blackbird, little ringed plovers, buzzards, green and red woodpeckers.
In this place, there are several wide nature trails, specifically designed for fascinating excursions and guided tours.
Visitors can also enjoy an observation hut built with reeds to observe the undisturbed local fauna. Information panels and rest areas are distributed throughout the whole green area.
