This Botanical Rose Garden is in Cavriglia (Arezzo), and it has been collecting rose species and hybrids from all over the world since 1967. It surely is a remarkable private collection, created over time thanks to botanical acquisitions dictated by specific taxonomic criteria. Such new additions have brought the number of rose varieties in this garden to more than 6.000.
The Rose Garden is very big and requires to be visited at different times because flowering happens gradually, and the oldest roses bloom very early (towards the end of April) and are not re-flowering, while modern roses begin to bloom in May and they go on until mid-June and then again in September. Unfortunately, the garden is not open to visitors right after the summer.
The garden was built with a traditional botanical structure: therefore, the roses were planted in separate spaces and divided into sections, according to their species, subspecies, and hybridization.
Each plant comes with a tag with basic identification information (the botanical name, the year of introduction in Europe, the possibility of producing hybrids, etc.).
