Carli Olive Oil Museum
This post is also available in: Italiano (Italian)
This museum features a wealth of information and collections which have been painstakingly preserved over the years by the very Carli family who founded its famous olive oil company in 1911.
Set in a beautiful Liberty-style building – which used to be the company’s headquarters in the 1920s – the museum actually sits in the middle of the very oil factory.
Visitors can enjoy the museum warehouses, as well as its rich library. A visit to the latter has to booked in advance.
Eighteen sections of the interesting exhibition tell the story of the world-famous olive oil produced here and then take visitors straight outside in the beautiful garden. There they can admire a XVII century olive-press from Spain, a local one from the XIX century and another Spanish contraption with conical grinders. There are also a fascinating collection of jars and some centuries-old olive trees.
A small conference building has been built nearby, while in the winter visitors can also see a modern olive-press used for the P.D.O. (Protected Designation of Origin) excellent extra virgin olive oil
