Correggia Wood

“Bosco della Correggia” grows north of Marruggio, a town in the north-western peninsula of Salento, in the province of Taranto. The wood terrain is flat, slightly undulating in its northern area close to Taranto Murge, which represent the further extension of the Murge Plateau in the province of Taranto – the Murge area reaches a maximum height of little more than 328 ft.
This wood is actually located north of the village of Correggia, on the road to Manduria. It covers about 25 acres and many trees were actually planted by its owner in 1959, to improve the quality of the air. The wood is made of a thick forest of Aleppo pines and a dense undergrowth with plants typical of the Mediterranean scrub (including phillyrea, olives, mastic trees and Spanish broom), while in the inner areas it is possible to find large thymes bushes and wild saffron.
