Daffodil Trail, Antola Park

Sentiero dei Narcisi (“Daffodil Trail”) is on Pian della Cavalla plateau, just above the town of Fascia, inside the Antola Park, in the hinterland of Genoa.

It can be reached in little more than an hour by car from Genoa (51 kilometres), along the SS45 road, on a rather winding track. Once in Fascia, visitors can park at the beginning of the pedestrian area and proceed a grassy path for about 40 minutes, leading to Pian della Cavalla (the last part goes uphill). Alternatively, they head towards Casa del Romano, past Fascia, and eventually follow the sign of the “Daffodil Trail” after few km on the left.

The trail is mostly flat and very easy: in about 30 minutes, visitors can reach a plateau covered with blooming daffodils (Narcissus poeticus) in May, along with orchids and globeflowers (Trollius europaeus). Although it is strictly forbidden to pick the flowers, wonderful pictures of them can be surely taken. It’s truly a breath-taking sight and from that very plateau, visitors can also enjoy a spectacular view of Monte Antola, Val Trebbia and the Hills of Piacentino.

But there’s another way to get there: starting in Fontanarossa (3.061 ft above sea level), head to Pian della Cavalla on a path across a large beech forest; once on the plateau, visitors can continue along the scenic route “Costa del Fresco” and then return to Fontanarossa following a path along the Terenzone Valley, for a total 4 hours of walking.
