The area is characterised by its spontaneous vegetation’s of swampy herbs Phragmites australis, Typha spp., Carex, Juncus and Salix spp., from which it is possible to obtain a huge variety of common products like bags and hand bags, brooms, chairs, wickers and shoes.
The museum path is an itinerary which reconstructs the manufacturing cycle of mowing to use the 5 primary herbs (reeds, canes, cattails, sedges, cordgrass), coming from the valleys of Emilia-Romagna. The path includes the reconstruction of the environments of the places and moments from the manufacturing process of the herbs, the recovery of original equipment for wood and herb working, the recovery of original objects and the reconstruction of the production process of 1850-1950. The set-up is completed by the permanent exhibition «Giochi di una volta».
