Environment Arts Association La Marrana

This Association was founded in 1996, in Milan, thanks to Grazia and Gianni Bolongaro. They wanted to create new spaces and opportunities where to spread and promote contemporary arts. “The artist is like a seismograph, which indicates where society is located”, or so M. Oppenheim stated, and this is the very motto which has always driven the creators of this association. Their aim is to create a meeting point outside the usual ones: not a gallery, not a museum, but a private house in Montemarcello (Ameglia-La Spezia), that would welcome visitors only on specific occasions.

The official activity of the association began in 1996, with an exhibition dedicated to Fausto Melotti – celebrating the tenth anniversary of his death. All the following exhibitions have always had some common features, as
they have been dedicated to great protagonists of contemporary art or to emerging figures with consolidated international experience, and have always focused on the relationship between work and the environment.

Being in the Montemarcello and Magra Natural Park was the most important feature which let this Association concentrate on environmental art interventions.

Currently being exhibited are works by Hossein Golba, Philip Rantzer, Luigi Mainolfi, Mario Airò, Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, Joseph Kosuth, Jannis Kuounellis, Jan Fabre, Ottonella Mocellin and Nicola Pellegrini, Gabriella Benedini, Ettore Spalletti, Hamish Futon and Claudia Losi , Piero Roccalselva, Alfredo Jaar, and Tiziana Priori.
