Feudi di San Gregorio

It was established in 1986, thanks to the determination of two families of Irpinia, Ercolino and Capaldo, in the locality of Sorbo Serpico, province of Avellino; one of the objectives has always been recovering prestigious productions and identifying a production standard, which could be able to answer to the requests of the market.
The business was named after its vocation for the cultivation of vines, which has been typical of this area since the times of Pope Gregorio Magno (590-604 d.C) when the territories of Sannio and Irpinia, located along via Appia, were part of the Saint Peter’s Patrimony (the so called fondo sannitico). The business has its wine cellar here.
Irpinia is a historic region of the Appennines of Campania and it represents a unique wine territory, since there is testimony of its wine yards already in the works of Latin authors like Plinio, Columella and Strabone. They live together with fruit trees, woods, aromatic herbs and olive trees.
The soil of this area is varied, since there is a continuous alternation of mountains, hills, plain lands and water sources; because of this there is a formation of winds which ensure a good raininess and create a microclimate which makes this area different from the others of the region.
The vegetation is dense and varied and reflects the environment of this area, where Winters are snowy, short and cold, while Summers are long and warm.
