Free thermal baths of Bormio / Vasca or Pozza di Leonardo

The free thermal baths of Bormio, also called “Pozza” or “Vasca di Leonardo”, are named after Leonardo da Vinci, who was sent to Valtellina by the Duke of Milan Ludovico il Moro, for an inspection aimed at the hydraulic regulation of the Adda basin.

Not far from the Stelvio Park, they feature some natural pools which collect the excess waters of Bagni Vecchi and Bagni Nuovi at Bormio spa.

Reaching the free thermal baths is easy: travel from Bormio to the Stelvio Mountain Pass, then turn toward Livigno and park your car after a while. Take the pedestrian path through the wood, skirting the stream, and eventually cross a footbridge over the river, all the way to the pools at the very edge of the waterway.
This path is easy, but at some point, a walkway could cause problems to those who suffer from vertigo. Set at a high altitude, the temperature along the path may be quite low even in the summer, therefore warm clothes are strongly recommended.
