The garden of this Gothic-style cloister is located in Venice, in the Cannaregio district, in the area that once housed the convent of the Augustinians of Mercy and later the School, or the association of charity and devotion.
Since 1974, it has been the seat of the restoration laboratory of the Special Superintendence for the Venetian Museum Complex.
The green area of this complex occupies an area of about 2.750 square yards and is crossed by two walkways perpendicular to each other, marked by a double hedge of red roses and partially shaded by vines and wisteria (Wisteria sinensis).
Visitors can also admire wondrous specimens of centuries-old cypresses (Cupressus sempervirens), laurels (Laurus nobilis), oleanders (Nerium oleander), and star jasmines (Trachelospermum jasminoides), in addition to the numerous herbaceous and shrubby flowering plants, such as periwinkles and clematis. A very interesting feature of this cloister is the splendid specimen of “Rosa Mermaid”, a hybrid with intensely scented corollas that can reach a diameter of 5.9 inches.
