Gole del Vezzeno

Around Gropparello castle, 28 kilometres away from Piacenza, some paths start, the ancient walkways, and descend towards the stream and gorges, the so called Gole del Vezzeno, which date back to the alpine and apennine ontogeny (about 180 million years ago).
The walkways are surrounded by a suggestive landscape and develop themselves on a steep path descending between the gorges, which are absorbed by spontaneous vegetation. This is a particular area, since lichens of Iceland live together with sedum, Ceratonia siliqua and Pinus Sylvester, thanks to the microclimate created by the union of warm rocks and the humidity of the Vezzeno stream. The visit can be completed with the tour of the Museo Geologico of Castell’Arquato, where numerous fossils of this area are shown.
In the park of Gropparello castle it also possible to find the Museo della Rosa (see relative information sheet).
