Hanbury Botanical Gardens – citrus fruit collection

This post is also available in: Italiano (Italian)

Among many collections sorted by family, origin, and eco-cultural needs, there is also one of citrus fruits. It includes 270 specimens and the varieties of sweet and bitter orange trees, lemons, and most of all, chinotto, cedar and bergamot.

This very collection is extremely important for both ornamental and historical values, attesting how much important this type of local cultivations has been since the XVI century. As a matter of fact, when Sir Hanbury purchased the property, many citrus varieties had already been planted, therefore he committed himself to sensibly increase their number.
