Inghiaie WWF Oasis is in the Municipality of Levico Terme (TN) and is part of a Site of Community Interest (SIC IT3120038) and the ZPS IT3120038 Special Protection Area.
The 3.7-acre oasis is protected by the WWF as a surviving portion of the humid environments that used to pave the Valsugana Valley floor.
The rich flora thrives thanks to the very coexistence of two types of soil: sandy and peaty.
There are, therefore, different types of plants, including huge patches of Molinia coerulea and sedges featuring the Carex genus.
Common reed (Phragmites australis) is very abundant in those marshy environments.
Along the Rio Vena, it is common to find riparian thickets of Alnus glutinosa (black alder) and Alnus incana (grey alder), while between the wood and the marsh, there are luxuriant bushes of Salix spp.. Towards the south, there is a portion of non-humid wood of lesser botanical interest.
The fauna is also quite rich in biodiversity. It includes many amphibians, such as Rana esculenta (edible frogs) and Rana temporaria (common frogs), which have found their perfect habitat – also for laying their eggs – in the wetland and the marshy environments.
Bird species include Anas platyrhynchos (mallards), Gallinula chloropus (common moorhens), Rallus aquaticus (water rails), and Alcedo atthis (common kingfishers).
