The Ischitella and Carpino Reserve features many tree species in its thick woods, namely holm oaks (Quercus ilex) and beech trees (Fagus sylvativa). The latter species is found at very low altitudes that define this very kind of “depression woods”.
Beech trees can be found, in fact, up to 820 ft above sea level, unexpectedly thriving in very sunny areas with little water available. Thanks to the wind, which brings them enough water, these magnificent trees can survive in this particular micro-climate.
The local fauna is represented by wild cats, roe deers, passerines, raptors and woodpeckers.
