Organic gardens of the Val di Gresta

Val di Gresta, once called “Valle di Gardumo” (referring to Lake Garda), features several organic gardens which benefit from the mild climate and grow on terraces delimited by dry stone walls – those gardens can be found up to 4.594 ft of altitude.

Cabbage is the most popular vegetable grown in those gardens (to produce sauerkraut), as well as carrots, celery, leeks, and the “Grestane” potatoes: a peculiar species with a strong mountain flavour. Salads, lettuce and radicchio are cultivated too. In the autumn season, it’s always time to grow cabbage, turnips and celeriac.

Every year, there is a market exhibition that offers organic farming products along with the typical products of this area; guided tours are available as well, to discover the vegetable gardens and the local farms.
