Punta Pagana Tower and Park

Between San Michele di Pagana and the beach of Prelo, there’s a promontory covered with maritime pines (Pinus pinaster); it’s where stands one of the few Ligurian Saracen towers not embedded in private residences or misused in the course of the centuries.
This building, erected as a defensive structure for the hamlet of San Michele di Pagana, dates back to the second half of the XVI century. The Senate of the Republic of Genoa officially ordered and endorsed its construction.
In the 1980s, the tower was donated to the National Trust of Italy (FAI) which decided to restore it and take care of the survival of the arboreal species within the area. The restoration soon involved the “sala della bombarda” (“cannon room”) on the roof, the original brick-laid floor, while preserving and protecting the seventeenth-century external plasters.
In this historical and spectacular place, visitors can thus enjoy a breath-taking view of the Ligurian sea.
