Ridolfi di Montalcino

In a land of an ancient civilization, full of art and history, beautifully blessed by oaks, chestnuts, olive trees, pines, vineyards, and cypresses on its hills, there are two estates – Ridolfi in Montalcino and Tenuta Rocchetto in Larciano – over 133 acres of cultivable land, 52 of them planted with vineyards. It is a tenacious pursuit of excellence, a legacy of a noble Tuscan taste that has been handed down somehow intact through the centuries.

The Ridolfi Estate is located in the “Mercatali” locality, which in the V and VI centuries was a large annual marketplace. One of the farmhouses still retains a three-storey section in stone and tuff from that era.

The state lies on a hillside at some 984 ft above sea level; it is close to the famous “Strada del Brunello”: in the heart of Tuscany. It features 74 acres of land, of which 28 are in the Brunello area, 16 in Chianti Colli Senesi and 2.4 in Rosso di Montalcino area – there are also 700 olive trees, of the “Correggiolo” variety only.

All Ridolfi vineyards are located on the north-east side of the Montalcino hill. They’re mostly clones from great ageing. The over 15-year-old vines are trained with spurred cordon, by means of two-bud pruning with four spurs. The vineyards planted after 2013 are, instead, trained with the simple Guyot technique. Three thinnings of the clusters are carried out during the season: at setting, at veraison and at the end of the ripening process. The bunches of the last thinning interventions are used for the production of Rosé Brut.
