Salix Nursery

Salix was born in 2000, when Anna Patrucco decided to devote herself to the cultivation of willows, both as ornamental plants and as intertwining material for garden structures; she actually rediscovered an ancient local tradition.
About three hundred species belong to the Salix genus, 60 of which are spontaneous in Europe, 30 in Italy. They include creeping shrubs and impressive tree specimens, with an incredible variety of shapes, colours and growing stances.
They are truly remarkable melliferous species, especially due to their early flowering; they don’t feature any prominent inflorescences to attract insects and have evolved by turning their pollen red, orange or deep yellow. Many specimens have coloured barks (yellow, green, red and dark purple), and have always been used for practical purposes – considering the flexibility of the branches, perfectly suitable for intertwining and swift production of wood. On the other hand, they have been little considered as decorative plants.
But today, this nursery offers an incredibly wide range of species, varieties and hybrids, appreciated for their elegant bearing, the colour of the branches, the early flowering, as well as the size and the beautiful shades of their inflorescences.
With their branches, Anna weaves wonderful structures: spheres, curbs, panels, cones, seats, vases, baskets, delightful animal shapes, as well as “live” hedges and gazebos wondrously sprouting every spring.
