San Pantaleo

San Pantaleo is a district of Olbia, in Gallura, standing on the old Roman road between Olbia and Tibula. It was born on a small hill, nestled between imposing granite promontories and overlooking beautiful Costa Smeralda on one side, and the Arzachena road on the other.
The town was developed by original dwellers who used to live in the “stazzi” – the typical rural houses made with bricks and mortar: in 1894, those people asked the bishop of Tempio to create a religious and social landmark, then, in 1903, the small rural church of San Pantaleo was eventually erected in the village which had already started expanding quite rapidly.
In addition to its natural beauties, such as the beaches of Cala Razza di Giunco or Massiccio di Cugnana – a 2.132-ft high granite massif that overlooks the gulf – San Pantaleo is acknowledged as the Sardinian capital of craftsmanship: local potters, skilled blacksmiths and their wrought-iron masterpieces, as well as experienced in-layers have always been highly appreciated for their unique and exquisite creations made mostly with wood, iron, terracotta, and ceramic.
