The 4-acre Saumont Park is in Aosta, along the Buthier stream – a few miles from the city centre.

It’s open to the public every year, from May, as the perfect place for relaxation and sports activities. There are several pedestrian and cycle paths running across the luxuriant vegetation, as well as play area for the children.

Inside the park, there are three artificial lakes covering an area of about 1.794 square yards, and several gentle lawns. The space reserved for children covers about 717 square yards.

BOTANICAL COLLECTIONS

The vegetation includes Norway maples (Acer platanoides “Globosum”), rowans (Sorbus aucuparia), sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua), black poplars (Populus nigra “Italica”), copper beeches (Fagus sylvatica), and birches (Betula pendula). Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) was used for the hedges.

Inside the ponds and along the banks, there are aquatic species such as water lily (Nymphaea spp.), white water-crowfoot (Ranunculus acquatilis), bogbean (Menyanthes trifoliata ), iris (Iris spp ), cardinal flowers (Lobelia cardinalis), and several varieties of grass. A peculiar weeping willow (Salix babylonica) has been planted on a lake islet.
