The complex Valle Bertuzzi is located in the wide Parco del Delta del Po, in the Southern part of Po di Volano, between Vaccolino, Lido di Volano, Lago delle Nazioni and Valli bonificate di San Giuseppe.
It is composed of a large body of water of 2,000 hectares, which is partially cut through by emerging sand dunes. It is a private property and it is principally used for fishing.
Flora and fauna
The vegetation is composed of reeds, brackish halophyte flora, with samphire, star sedges, phragmites, lavender. Among the valleys Nuova and Bertuzzi, a small Quercus ilex wood has been developed and it has been named Boschetto de Dosso Bertuzzi. The complex is particularly suitable for birdwatching , the local avifauna is composed of overwintering, nesting and migrating species which makes it one of the most important wet environments of Italy.
The small wood Dosso Bertuzzi hosts a dormitory of cormorant. They are important for all the nation and there are nesting colonies of common terns, little terns, herring-gulls.
Here also nest Kentish plovers, common Redshanks, common stilt, common moorhens, goer-eagles and marsh eagles. During migration times, it is possible to find dunlins, Spoonbill herrings, spotted Redshanks, black-tailed Godwit, common green shanks and curlews. In addition, the Central-Southern part of the complex has been frequented by hundreds of pink flamingos since the nineties. In the area argine Acciaioli, the only access, there are semi-wild Delta-Camargue horses and a tower for birdwatching.
