This oasis is one of the most uncontaminated places in the Bergamo Prealps.
The vegetation is mostly made of downy oaks (Quercus pubescens), ashes (Fraxinus ornus), and European hop-hornbeams (Ostrya carpinifolia); in the undergrowth, there are wayfaring trees (Viburnum lantana), common hawthorns (Crataegus oxyacantha), hazels (Corylus avellana), some greenwed (Genista tinctoriana, Genista germanica), and dogwood (Cornus mas).
The dominant species are Chestnut trees (Castanea sativa), and European aspens (Populus tremola) are dominant.
Other widespread species include butcher’s broom (Ruscus aculeatus), black bryony (Tamus Communis), myrtle (Vinca minor), hellebores (Helleborus niger, Helleborus viridis, Helleborus foetidus), and cyclamens (Ciclamen purpurascens).
Around the springs and along a stream there is a lot of elders (Sambucus nigra); in the stagnant water, there’s hard rush (Juncus inflexus), and male ferns (Dryopteris filis-max).
In the water, crayfish play a very important role, while amphibians include the rare northern crested newts and fire salamanders.
There are over 50 species of nesting birds such as peregrine falcons, Eurasian golden orioles,
buzzards, common ravens, black kites, kestrels, tawny owls, little owls, barn owls, cuckoos, and Eurasian jays.
Among the mammals, this oasis is full of foxes, badgers, weasels, martens, roe deers, deers, and wild boars.
