Villa Angerer

Originally built as Villa Feraldi, this elegant property was purchased by an affluent Austrian scientist, scholar and experienced traveller. Then, Leopold Angerer invested a considerable sum to remodel the villa with Libert style decorations, terracotta chimneys with dragons and flowers, carved marbles, stuccoes, glass and zoomorphic wrought iron around the balconies. He also added a floor for his library, bow-windows with beautiful stained glass, stuccoes and maiolica decorations and several splendid wrought iron railings.
The dining room was fitted with wood panels and stained-glass doors with lead riveting.
The local representatives of the National Trust of Italy (FAI) have worked hard to restore the whole estate, its beautiful garden and the main access grotto. Everything was cleared from the rubble, secured and restored to its original beauty, including the pathway along via Fratelli Asquasciati boundary wall.
Some areas were closed to the public for safety reasons, while an old iron gazebo was fully restored and fitted with vines. The new pathway for visitors was actually paved with eco-friendly recycled vegetable fibres.
There are two themed areas on the premises: the first one is opposite the Sanremo Casino and features succulent plants, palms and beautiful specimens from Central America, including two monumental Beaucarnea recurvata. The second area reproduces a subtropical setting with exotic plants from the five continents, including many specimens of the cycadaceae family.
The heart of the garden is represented by a small niche with some rare and ancient Wollemia nobilis, a tropical plant believed to be extinct for two million years.
