Villa Bruno

Villa Bruno is a building of the 19th century belonging to the municipality of San Giorgio a Cremano (NA). Foundry Righetti was here from 1816 and it realised the two horses for the bronze monumental statues of Charles of Bourbon (future king Charles III of Spain) and Ferdinand I of the two Scillies (Ferdinand IV of Bourbon), which were put in 1829 in Naples’ piazza del Plebiscito.
The villa, which is characterised by wide terraces and a sinuous balcony, is separated from the road by an enclosure wall and an iron gate, where there are two medallions with two bronze horses’ heads to commemorate the fusion of the statues. The principal building of Foundry Righetti is on the left side of the building and it was built in yellow Neapolitan tuff.
The boulevard of the park is paved with tuff and it is decorated with stone seats on both sides which are interchanged with vases and statues for more than 200 meters.
Villa Bruno has become since a long time a cultural centre for the city and it hosts the municipal library, associations and offices.
THE GARDEN
It included an iron-glass greenhouse with and a semi-circular exedra, which have been substituted now by an open-air arena where many events are hosted with the support of the city council. Some of the 19th century’s statues are still present and on the right side of the entrance alley there is a wide grassy area, bordered by many fruit trees, where there are the theatre stands. The space is partially grassy on the left side and the other section is a garden. Some of the statues represent Roman and Greek gods and there is a glass greenhouse, which was used to cultivate medical plants.
