Villa Pignatelli is located along Riviera di Chiaia (Na). It is considered one of the most relevant examples of neoclassical architecture and it was built in 1826 by Ferdinando Acton, a noble Neapolitan, admiral and politician, Minister of War and of the Navy. The building was designed by the architect Pietro Bianchi.

The internal decorations and the garden were a project of the Tuscan architect Gugliemo Bechi.

The garden was realised in 1830, it is an English style park with two grassy flowerbeds, one in front and the other behind the villa, and numerous exotic species.

The villa was bought in 1841, some years after the death of Acton, by a German family of bankers von Rothschield, who inhabited it till 1860 and decorated the whole building and had a palace of three floors built in the park, which is named Palazzina Rothschild.
