Villa Sorra

Villa Sorra was built for the count Antonio Sorra during the first half of the 18th century. It is surrounded by a wide romantic park, one of the most important informal gardens and one of the best preserved ones in Emilia Romagna.
It is a typical case of Italian gardens’ history : built in the 18th century according to the formal schemes of the times, it was refurbished in the 19th century according the new rules of English style gardens of those years, with numerous, rare, exotic arboreal essences and characteristic elements such as a hillock with a grotto, a castle in ruins, a bridge, a pier, a lake and a big greenhous.
Of the formal garden remain only the fish pool, the side canals and, next to the villa, traces of the previous geometrical division.
In a wide outdoor area, in the vicinities of two old cultivated poplar woods, there are different vegetal species, which have created an interesting botanical complex which evolves spontaneously.
