Fiuggi and its thermal waters have a very ancient origin. In prehistoric times, the basin of Fiuggi was a lake which over time became filled with a layer of silt, clay, tuffs and ashes – due to sedimentation and volcanic phenomena.
Today, the water filters through the volcanic layer, enriched with precious substances. Its secret, therefore, lies
in its very composition. The use of this water for healing purposes is very ancient. The thermal complex of Fiuggi plunged into the woods of chestnut and old oaks, is made of two splendid hydrothermal facilities equipped with all comforts. The modern spa, one of the most important in Italy, includes the Bonifacio VIII Spring, and the Anticolana Spring, inaugurated in the 1920s.
Pope Boniface VIII, born in Ciociaria, used to be a regular consumer of this healthy water.
Praised as the water “that breaks the stone”, the latter is also mentioned in letters by Michelangelo to his nephew Leonardo in 1549. This most unique mineral water can be found only in Fiuggi, offering diuretic properties and the ability to dissolve and expel kidney stones, while preventing their insurgence. The water is also used before surgery and in post-surgery treatments. It can also be an effective remedy for urinary infections, and it prevents gout and urinary arthropathies.
