Falascone reserve is an Oriented Biogenetic State Natural Reserve, founded in 1971. Located in the territory of Monte Sant’Angelo, it covers 118 acres and is also an actual section of the Umbra Forest, with broad-leaved trees, beeches trees, many maples and hornbeams.
The local fauna includes roe deers, badgers, wild cats, stone martens, dormice, and several bird species.
Unfortunately, today the forest is fenced off and not accessible to visitors as its delicate natural balance could be easily compromised. For this very reason, visits are allowed only for scientific or research purposes. It is still possible to walk or drive around the reserve, on the road that runs parallel to it, leading to Mount S. Angelo.
Inside the reserve, there are still some portions of the old Decauville railway line, used for timber in the first half of the 1900s.
