Parks and natural reserves of Monte Amiata

This post is also available in: Italiano (Italian)

The territory of Mount Amiata is the green lung of southern Tuscany. Surrounded by the massifs of Mount Labbro and Civitella – covered with chestnut and beech woods – it provides crystal clear water to Siena, Grosseto, Val d’Orcia, and Maremma. The mountain can be found half in the province of Grosseto and half in that of Siena – those two cities have thus created a system of nature reserves with peculiar features. On Mount Amiata there is a high concentration of biotopes and protected areas, in which the ecological balance allows extraordinary vegetational associations, also particularly suitable for the local fauna. Many of the Natural Reserves of the interprovincial system are located in those municipalities and almost the entire volcano is under a special protection program. Each Reserve preserves numberless environmental treasures (excerpt from www.monte-amiata.eu)
