Villa Lina was built near the sulphurous baths, appreciated for their healing waters, in Roncigliano. It’s thus found in the northernmost part of the Lazio Region known as Tuscia. It stretches over some 100 acres and it’s now a huge farm which used to be the private abode of Roman noblemen at the beginning of last century. Its botanic garden was built at the end of the XVIII century and features also an Italian-style portion.

THE VILLA

The villa hosts some historical dwellings in different gardens, like “Casa Portale” – the biggest of the estate, a classic of XIX century, and surrounded by hydrangeas; “Casa Orto” – with a beautiful strawberry grape pergola (Vitis labrusca), and built next to the traditional and synergistic vegetable garden, and Perfume Garden; the B&B Relais, made of terraces and verandas where many types of plants, peacocks, foxes and porcupines thrives in such perfect environment.

THE GARDEN

Lush vegetation surrounds the villa with many gardens: the Italian-style one it’s also a true Symbolic Garden; then there’s Therapeutic Garden, the Botanic Garden (built at the end of the XVIII century), and the Perfume Garden.
The Symbolic Garden it’s an Italian-style one built by architect De Vico in 1920 – it can be reached through two original Egyptian columns from an ancient place of worship. It’s a true temple to nature, male and female dualism, yin and yang. The Bio-Energetic Garden is built on volcanic rocks and it’s full of monumental streams and plants like olm oaks (Quercus ilex), lime trees (Tilia spp.) and holly trees (Ilex aquifolium). It stretches along a natural path with
Therapeutic, and well-being areas.
The Historical Garden features many trees dating back to 1790, most of them rare like, evergreen sequoias (Sequoia sempervirens), evergreen magnolias (Magnolia grandiflora), Himalayan cedars (Cedrus deodara), yews (Taxus baccata), holly trees (Ilex aquifolium), silver firs (Abies pectinata), gian thujas (Thuja gigantea), strawberry trees (Arbutus unedo), Roman pines (Pinus pinea), violets (Viola spp.), narcissus (Narcissus spp.), wild strawberries, and wild orchid species. Edible and medicinal plants are abundant as well.
The Perfume Garden offers a relax area, surrounded by the mesmerizing scents and colours of roses (Rosa spp.), and honeysuckles (Lonicera spp.).
