Villa Savorelli Garden

Villa Savorelli is built on a hill in the Sutri Valley (VT), in the Sutri Regional Park. I was built in the early XVIII century by the Muti-Papazzurri Family. At the end of that century, it was inherited by Counts Savorelli, then it was owned by the Staderini Family, and eventually became a property of the Municipality of Sutri.
Taking a stroll from the nearby archeological site of ancient Sutri, this villa can be reached through a small wood.
The building has a rectangular layout, while the main façade overlooks the large and elegant garden, built along the southern belt of the plateau. Such façade has a slightly sloping lower part, with corner bosses, repeating the decorative motif of the main portal, and, at the top, a horizontal band with a double rounded frame, which serves as the footing for corner pilasters and the four windows of the first floor.
The second floor has the same number of windows, aligned with the ones below. Above the protruding cornice, the attic is smooth, with angular pillars. Four marble busts are visible at the top. The interior, which has been dramatically remodeled, doesn’t feature any significant architectural solutions. The villa cannot be visited.
On the right side of the building, there is a forest of centuries-old holm oaks, which can be accessed straight from the first floor of the structure, via a little bridge.
The Italian-style garden has a Renaissance labyrinth of box hedges, embellished with a volcanic tuff (Peperino) fountain. The latter comes with a circular basin decorated with a central mask – on which there’s a pine cone motif. At the end of the fountain, there’s an overhanging balustrade on the Roman Amphitheater.
