Villa Sceriman Widmann Rezzonico Foscari

The villa was built in the early XVIII century by the Sceriman family, noble tradesmen of Persian origin, in a place which is still called “la Riscossa”.
Later on, it passed to the Widmanns, a Carinthian aristocratic family, who gave the building its current appearance, adding Rococo-style decorations.
Rezzonico and Foscari are the names acquired over time by the Widmanns, following the marriages with members of the those other two noble Venetian families. Villa Widmann is currently owned by the Province of Venice.

THE VILLA

The villa is a square building on two floors. On the ground floor, there’s the central hall, right past the classic atrium, which opens onto four rooms.
Right after the mid-XVIII century, the villa passed to the Widmann family, who upgraded the main building to the French Rococo style and enlarged the “barchessa”, a traditional service structure for farming with large arcades, connecting to the church. The extension works raised the central part of the villa, creating the curvilinear tympanum; some windows were opened, while others were modified with Rococo taste.

The attic of the central hall was demolished to give the latter a greater elevation, while several new bedrooms were created on the second floor. All the rooms were exquisitely decorated with precious and polychrome stuccoes.
A short staircase reaches the open atrium, supported by four columns, leading to the ballroom decorated with frescoes by Giuseppe Angeli in 1765.

THE GARDEN

To the north of the villa, there’s the park full of tall trees, shrubs and flowers. The lush green conifers (mainly pines) offer the perfect background to several statues of gods, nymphs, and cupids, with fragrant lime trees arranged along the avenues. On the right side, beyond the rustic, there is a large space delimited by the low greenhouses – right there, a swimming pool was created in the 1970s; At that time, a large lake, a monumental fountain, and new avenues were inserted in the park as well.

The local tourism romotion office inside the villa (IAT Territoriale di Mira service) offers comprehensive information about the local products available on Riviera del Brenta and in the Mirano area.
